DID YOU KNOW?
Algonquin's original "Riverview" opened for business on May 1st, 1907, as the Riverview Hotel, to help serve the growing need for quality board and lodging in our bustling Victorian era resort town. In 1936, the hotel closed and The Riverview first took on its new role as a gathering place for people to enjoy conversation and music while sharing food and drink. For nearly a century, the establishment and its distinctive building was a highly recognized local landmark, which served as a visual cornerstone to downtown Algonquin for those who entered our village both from the east by way of the road as well as from the north by way of the river. |
IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK
A look at the photos gives a glimpse of times past. Just imagine the topics of our patrons conversations spanning the decades of The Riverview's operation.--From the Great Depression, through wars, 17 presidents, and from the sounds of Glenn Miller and Big Bands to Elvis and Rock-n-Roll. Literally every major historic event and social change of the past 100 years has been witnessed by the Riverview and our customers together. The Riverview is well known as a friendly place that caters to the working class and their families. The Riverview is a piece of living local history , a place that often rekindles ones memories of an earlier time. Just as their parents once did, many patrons bring their children and grandchildren to The Riverview. One comment we often heard was "If these walls could only talk". |

OUR PATRONS
You, our patrons, are the RIVERVIEW. You are creating our history. You are the reason we fought to save our heritage, our values for quality service, great food and drink; all for the sake of future generations! We are of the contention that "If you build it, they will come." For the past 22 years Jeff Battaglia and Bob Beyer, along with The Riverview's devoted staff, have put their hearts and souls into preserving the integrity of a good restaurant with great food and service. Our patrons are the link to our past and the bridge to our future. |
